Hey, you're back. Hurray!
ReplyDeleteMostly! I'm still having issues on my end but that might be a me problem.
DeleteIt's always scary when I don't have my FTM in the morning
DeleteThe movie's awesome, and what they did with the blu-ray is criminal. They need to release a proper disc (ideally 4k). Criterion needs to step up, they have a ton of their movies
ReplyDeleteI still only have the DVD because I heard the Blu-ray is really bad. Holding out for a better release.
DeleteI read online that hobo comes from “hoe-boy” as in an agricultural labourer
ReplyDeleteThank you for the explanation!
DeleteMy interpretation of the title is that this is the movie that Sullivan wanted to make - a movie from the perspective of the downtrodden man and his struggles… and it’s simultaneously the kind of movie that Sullivan learns is truly important during bleak times - it’s a real ‘Hey Hey in the Hayloft’. It’s set during the late 30s, around the same time as Sullivan’s Travels, and is about a bunch of homeless people who can’t catch a break. The Sullivan we meet at the start of Sullivan’s Travels would have loved the plot of this movie but not the tone, and the Sullivan we meet at the end would have just loved the movie full stop.
ReplyDeleteThat’s my view anyway.
Good to hear some (or at least a little) love for The Hudsucker Proxy!
