• Best Scene/Moment: The car chase/shootout scene set to the song “Church.”

• Best Song: “Morris Brown” by Big Boi featuring Scar and Sleepy Brown.

• Best Merch: A “2004 Idlewild Original Movie Call Sheet Plus 2 Location Maps…” for $5.88. This is a pretty unique piece of memorabilia for a really low price. I don’t know what you’d do with it, but I suppose it’s neat to see for someone who likes movies but doesn’t work on them.

• Director Grade: Idlewild was directed by Bryan Barber.

• Double It with This 2006 Movie: Dave Chappelle’s Block Party

• Year 2006 Movies to Trailer Before Them: ATL, Charlotte’s Web, Dreamgirls

• Ella McCay or Idlewild? Ella McCay

• Mall Movie? Yeah, probably. It would make sense to leave the theater and go buy the soundtrack to Idlewild at the record store in the mall.

• Only in 2006: Big Boi and André 3000 made a movie together at Outkast.

• Scene Stealer: Terrence Howard.

• I Miss: Outkast. The group never officially broke up but they haven’t made music or toured together in many years.

• I Don’t Miss: Gangster musicals.

• 2006 Crush: Paula Patton.

• 2026 Crush (tie): Paula Patton and Malinda Williams.

• What I Thought in 2006: I remember thinking Idlewild was fine but a disappointment from what I expected out of the “Outkast movie.” The soundtrack was really good though. The film felt like not as good Harlem Nights.

• What I Think in 2026: I had pretty much the same reaction this time. For a group as innovative and electric as Outkast, it’s disappointing that Idlewild is so derivative. The best part about my recent viewing is it makes me want to dust off my Outkast albums and listen to them again. If I were making a top 5 list of bands/artists that I listened to all the time during my college days, Outkast would be on it.
