Announcing Junesploitation 2026!

by Patrick Bromley
Let's f*%$ing go.

This year marks our 16th year (!!!) as a site and our 13th year of Junesploitation, our annual celebration of exploitation and genre films. What started as a selfish excuse for me to spend a few weeks watching '70s and '80s grindhouse fare has exploded into a yearly tradition with many, many participants both on our site and on social media. Thank you for that!!
Most of you know the drill by now, but for those of you new to Junesploitation, here's how it works: each day of the month has its own theme, and you're supposed to watch a movie that ties into that theme. How you interpret the connection is entirely up to you, which means if you have no interest in exploitation or genre movies that's ok and you can still join in!

We've tried to expand the categories a bit this year to be a little broader in the hopes of making Junesploitation even more inclusive. After hearing that some folks were running out of Lucio Fulci movies to watch, we've also opted to retire Fulci Day on his birthday. Maybe it will be back in the future!

Stay tuned for our annual Junesploitation Primer for help on where to find some good titles, though by now most of you know where to look.
Here is this year's schedule, as always featuring a several new categories and some returning favorites:

  3. Thank you Patrick for listening to our suggestions. 😀 Only Chuck Norris didn't get his own day 😰😓... but there are plenty of other days (Cannon, 90's Action, etc.) we can sneak him in. 😉 Everything else is just... groovy. 😁 Monday Jun. 1st cannot come soon enough! 😅🥰

    1. This calendar became an FThisMovie community effort. There seem to be more new categories than I can recall from prior years.

    2. Yes! There are lots of great new categories. I end up watching at least one Franco Nero movie every year, so glad it became a category. Hitch-Hike last year was very good (and pictured up above). I wonder whether anyone with do the Fulci/Nero cross-over feature, White Fang?

    3. I hope someone watched White Fang! There's no way people are running out of Fulci films to watch: Internet query informed me that he 60 directed films and contributed to more than 120 scripts! I'm not mad about him being left off this year's calendar, though, nice to get some new cateGORIES in there!

    4. I watched White Fang in 2022 for Fulci day! Not quite as "exploitation" as most of what I watched that month, but a good movie that I very much enjoyed and was a change of pace for a day.

  4. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

    1. That's what 'Free Space!' days are there for. 😁

    2. But then i'm losing a day of free space to watch other stuff 😵‍💫

    3. I've stacked double features to make up for missed days. Or hey, you could start early (I won't tell)!

  7. Incidentally, why is "Kuffs" the face of 'Free Day' on the calendar? 😅 We know Patrick's love of it, but wow! 🥰

    1. Because Kuffs is awesome. And he's a free spirit 🤣

  8. OMG OMG OMG. The timing could not be more perfect. Lately ive found myself in a bit of a malaise with movies both new and old. Just cant seem to find something i really want to watch. BUT Junespoloitation's structure and bonkers-ness always gets me superstoked to find weird, crazy, fun, culty, bananas flicks! CANT F@#$ING WAIT!!!!!! Thanks Patrick!!!!

    1. I have also been in a movie funk recently. This has happened before, so I know the mood will pass. I think June will provide the motivation I need to find the fun again.

    2. I've been in kind of a similar space recently. Where a few years ago I was watching 365 movies a year, I've been only watching around 1 a week. I have a bunch of half finished movies that I should finish, and a bunch of recent stuff that I feel that I should watch. But I haven't been sleeping well, and I'm just so tired after work, I don't want to start another one and not finish it.

I hope that having themed days will help. But at the same time, I'm going to watch what I can, but not stress too much about hitting every single day.

It hasn't been too bad. I've burned through 1/2 of Star Trek Voyager. My love of this re-watch of Voyager might be the cause of my movie watching malaise.

  9. This is an AWESOME lineup! Thanks Patrick and thanks to the people who suggested new categories.

I think I'm most excited for South Korea, Private Eyes, and Black Filmmakers. Also, I hope everyone else is hearing Hall & Oates in their heads when reading "Private Eyes" as a category.

  10. PM Entertainment tip (day 28)
Not being too familiar with the studio, I took a look and found currently there are 29 choices available streaming for free with no ads just on Hoopla!!

If you don't already know, Hoopla and Kanopy are services like your library where you can "check-out" and stream movies. All you need is a library card! (and some libraries let you get an e-card online, super fast)

    2. I don't think they have Kanopy here in Canada, but Hoopla is great! I also have a couple of Hoopla movies slotted in for a couple of days. Hip hip hooray for the library! (Not just for movies. My library can get in from elsewhere basically any book every published it seems. And they gave me a card that I can use at the local university libraries too. Support public libraries!)

  11. Can't wait! Planning this out was so much fun as always. Going with 12 rewatches and 18 new-to-mes. That ratio feels pretty right.

  12. Oh, while we're on the 'sploitation subject, Vinegar Syndrome just started a sale. There's some cool deals there

    2. I was going through my VS collection a couple days ago to see what fits the calendar or any free day ideas. With so many unwatched VS releases still to get through, I am not inclined to add to the collection this sale.

    3. Same here, Casual. No more now blood, let's spill blood from our filled-to-capacity shelves. 😅😎

    5. It takes will power (and a constantly-dwindling account) to say no to a VS sale. ✊️🤠

    6. Especially when they keep announcing 4K upgrades for movies by my favorite filmmakers.

  13. I'm excited for another round of Junesploitation, although we'll also be moving into our first house during the start of June, so I might miss some days here and there.

I used to plan out my Junesploitations pretty meticulously, but the last few years I've been trying to actually get some use out of the multitude of streaming services I subscribe to (as well as the free ones). Planning things out is fun but there's something to be said for the serendipity of just finding some random thing each day that looks interesting and fits the theme for the day.

    1. Congrats on the new house! Very exciting. I used to plan the month out, but now I just very loosely plan it, and often just fill in the blanks and I move along. Some days I'll have 2-3 movies that would fit, and pick the best one for my mood of the day. The point is to have fun, and for me anyhow, having a bit of spontaneity is part of the fun.

Also, by the evening, there are lots of great suggestions already in the mini reviews, so it's fun to look to those as a recommendation source (if they're available to stream/rent).

  14. No Fulci Day, guess I’m taking this year off.
Not! I’ll just use a Free Space to watch the Murder-Rock 4K.
I’m mixing it up this year and instead of watching VHS all month I’m going to be spinning Vinegar Syndrome discs. Can’t wait to fill out my calendar tonight.

    1. "Hey, hey, hey. BIM's on it's way."

Something was definitely going on in the 1970s and early '80s to have so many weird movies come out of that time. The Apple is among the weirdest.

  17. Can I get some clarification on Heroes and Villains? It's the only space I haven't filled so far.
