  1. The problems with the Cameron 4k, they used DNR with AI (smoothing), so there's some with glitches in the picture, with the added bonus of everything looks waxy. Like a background character getting a second mouth.

Avoid if possible. The Abyss is not as bad, so that one you can get

    1. I got "The Abyss" 4K recently on sale. Can confirm it looks stunning (both versions), the best this film has looked since the '89 theatrical run. 🙂

    2. I've given up trying to understand why some 4K UHD releases look worse than good 1080p blu-ray's. Yes, I used reddit-trained AI to inform me that seeing flickering spots on everyone's forehead is how Wes Anderson intended for me to experience Bottle Rocket, but I just don't agree. I've learned a denoising technique off a YouTube that I would battle anyone to say that it doesn't make things look better without losing the supposed detail they claim you lose when those spots are removed. I'm not convinced what they call grain is what this effect is. the character on the screen is the same size it always was in the picture, why would the "grain" now be the size of that splotch on Boris Yeltsin's forehead.

    3. The worst 4k releases are always from big studios, because they somehow got into their heads that viewers don't want to look at grains.

    4. is there more than just grain in the equation though? this is where it gets frustrating seeking answers without visual representations. I understand why the 4K release of The Hills Have Eyes looks like you're watching it through a snowstorm-- the 8mm source isn't rewarding you by being enlarged. But I've watched clean footage with grain, the tiny elements in the picture. but that doesn't seem to be what's happening in other examples. Noise isn't grain. that can be cleaned up. unless i'm still missing something.

  2. Vinegar Syndrome had a booth at Fantasia Festival in Montreal, which ended last week. It took all my strength to not go and spend all my money there.

  3. someone has to be doing a League of Extraordinary Gentleman x Marvel Avengers style public domain character super blockbuster movie with Winnie the Pooh, Betty Boop, Pinocchio, Babar the Elephant, and whoever else is coming off copyright protection.

  4. Laughing my ass off at Adam gleefully spoiling Just Cause, because one hour prior to listening I bought a $2 snapcase DVD of Just Cause, a movie I've never seen.
