Back to 1976: NICKELODEON
by Heath Holland
“Before Rhett kissed Scarlett. Before Laurel met Hardy. Before Butch Cassidy met the Sundance Kid. Before any movie ever made you laugh or cry or fall in love. There was a handful of adventurers who made flickering pictures you could see for a nickel.”

Back to 1976: SILENT MOVIE
by Heath Holland
Mel Brooks could have made any movie he wanted in 1976. His previous two films, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein had both been box office hits in 1974, and his brand was at an all-time high. Maybe it’s not surprising that he cashed in all that movie credit to make a silent movie about the making of a silent movie.

Unsung!: At Long Last Love
This Peter Bogdanovich film has only sporadically been shown on television. It has NEVER been released on any tape or disc format. Boy, is it ever unsung! And Burt Reynolds sings!

Heath Holland On...Smokey, the Bandit and the Resurrection of the Alabama Kid
This week’s column was NOT supposed to be about Smokey and the Bandit. It was going to be about the three Dolph Lundgren movies I bought last week and what I thought about them. It was going to be called Dolph Lundren Triple Play, and I was going to go on and on about how I thought he was underrated and consistently put out decent, low budget straight-to-DVD action movies on a regular basis. That column was all set to go, and I had extensive notes. It was already mostly written in my head.
This is not that column.
