With the summer release of the latest installment of one of my favorite action series, I was trying to figure out why Jason Bourne wasn’t inciting more personal excitement. I asked other action movie lovers (also Bourne fans), and found that we all shared the same sort of disinterest, as if we just couldn’t be bothered to watch it.
I’m glad movies like Elysium exist. In a lot of ways, writer-director Neill Blomkamp’s second feature crystallizes a concept that is at once plainly obvious and yet always in need of more analytical thought: Making a good movie is god damn hard, man.
It's summer now, and that can mean only one thing: SEQUELS! They're not all just routine, cynical cash grabs, though. Here are some that aren't. Or that are, but we just don't care.
