We Like Short Shorts: Reviewing the Oscar Documentary Short Films
by Rosalie LewisAn upside to my perhaps unhealthy obsession with the Oscars is that for every less than great nominee I make myself watch (looking at you, Golda), I get to discover some pretty nifty short films. Not every year is a great year for the Oscar nominated short films, but there’s always at least a few worth tracking down. This year, I found the most rewarding viewing in the Documentary Short category—all of which were easily available online, as an added bonus.

Celluloid Ramblings: Oscar Shorts!
by JB
I encourage all of you to see the Academy Award-nominated short films before the actual (yawn) ceremony next Sunday. TIP: Bring some Kleenex. Seriously.

Unsung!: Oscar-Nominated Shorts
The Oscar-nominated short films, those red-headed stepchildren of the motion picture industry, are being released for the eighth year to actual movie theaters in selected cities. This is a positive trend, but I wish more studios and theaters would bring back the idea of showing “selected short subjects” before the main feature. Remember those Three Stooges shorts you watched on television as a kid… or The Little Rascals… or Looney Tunes? Those were all originally shown in movie theaters. Those were the days! (AND GET OUT OF MY YARD!)
