TIFF 2024 Coverage Days 4-7: HERETIC, NIGHTBITCH, FRIENDSHIP, and More
by Joel EdmistonIt’s day seven as I write this. I’ve seen 21 movies. The days are starting to bleed into each other. I had lunch with a friend yesterday afternoon and it feels like that was a week ago. The movies are rhyming. There were turtles in two or three movies I’ve seen (maybe one was a frog actually). I am slightly fatigued -- very fatigued. I’m making odd decisions. I bought a 2 liter bottle of Sprite Zero today, having never drank Sprite Zero in my life. All that said, I’m having so much fun. Seeing this many movies in a week? In my own city, no less? I can go home and see my cats at the end of the day? I’m a lucky guy.

They Came Together - Chicago Critics Film Festival Review
by Patrick Bromley
Joke for joke, They Came Together is the funniest movie since 2001's Wet Hot American Summer. That shouldn't be a surprise, since both films are directed by the great David Wain and written by Wain and Michael Showalter. They've done it again.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Week of May 16)
Confession time: I haven't watched a lot of movies lately. I know, right? RIDICULOUS, especially for a film Web site. I SHOULD BE FIRED!* Dude (dude?), I've just been busy. LIFE. It gets in the way. This guy (you in the back) knows what I'm talking about. For example, I bought a grill last weekend. HOWEVER, after I bought the grill, drove the grill home and hauled the grill up three flights of stairs, I realized that the box the grill came in was open and a grill part was missing. So, I exchanged the old grill for a new grill. Assembled the grill. Cooked on the grill. What I'm trying to say that is my existence has become VERY grill-based. On another note, did you ever stare at a word for so long that it doesn't even look like a word anymore? GRILL. GRILL. GRILL. GRILL. GRILL. Phew! Even though I haven't watched a lot of MOVIES lately, I have been keeping up with movie TRAILERS. Exciting, right? Yeah -- you're excited. I can tell.
*Patrick, please don't fire me!
