As I write this, it is the final day of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. It’s over and I am having the feeling I have when a vacation is ending. In the winter of 2008, I had a first date with a young lady. The movie she wanted to see was Four Christmases, and, being a first date, I agreed. I hated the movie. I hated just about every moment of Four Christmases. As it happens, myself and this girl didn’t have a second date and the evening ended up being kind of a bust. Trying to recoup a portion of that fateful night, I decided to break out the candy canes and peppermint to find some things to like in Four Christmases.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (July 19)

Calvin and Hobbes is the best. It helped define my childhood, and I still I read it TO THIS DAY. I love it. I own every book (including those that are simply compilations of the "best" strips from other books) -- I even saved the very last comic (Dec. 31, 1995) from the Chicago Tribune (because I am a nerd). I'm not sure how I feel about this new documentary, Dear Mr. Watterson. Part of me is encouraged by the enthusiasm of like-minded fans. But, knowing Watterson's insane reclusiveness and vehement opposition to merchandising, I just know they'll find a way to F it up. Will it be a comprehensive look at the strip's history, pure fan service or ... what? No release date yet.

Watchin' Trailerz with Doug (Feb. 15)

Kind of a shitty week for trailers (sorry in advance!) so let's talk about something else. Anyone out there see A Good Day to Die Hard? If so, what did you think? Because it looks like garbage. Is it? IS IT GARBAGE? Look, I do trailerz here, not feature-length movies, so I'm counting on you people to fill me in. DON'T LET ME DOWN.
